Brennan stressed a lot about the rules that his teacher laid out for them on the 1st day. Night after night, he had to be reassured that as long as he didn’t do something the teacher didn’t approve of, he would be ok. “Mom, I would never do that”. The teacher and her assistant knew how stressed Brennan was about it. The other week, he along with a group of other kids, were playing tag instead of working at their station as they were told to. When the teacher turned around and saw what they were doing, they were all told to go flip a green card. She said that as soon as she and the assistant saw that Brennan was one of the ones in the group, their heart just sank. They knew, that he would feel bad and probably cry. His teacher said that even the other kids looked like they held their breath when they discovered that Brennan had to flip a card. My understanding is that he was one of the only ones that hadn’t had to flip a card yet, and they all knew how hard Brennan tried to avoid that. She said, that he slowly went back to his desk, flipped his card then walked up to the teacher’s desk. “Mrs. Engle, when I flip a card, that makes me want to cry”-and then he started to cry. After a conversation with an understanding teacher, the tears were soon wiped and all was well. Matt and Monica didn’t know about it until parent-teacher conference. When they asked him if he forgot to tell them, he said that he didn’t want them to know. They explained that he wasn’t in trouble at home, but that it was a good lesson for him to learn, just because others are doing something wrong, doesn’t make it ok for him to do it.
I don’t know if I have all the details exact, but I think it’s a good story about my strong willed and yet sensitive grandson. He also happens to be the youngest in his class.
